For a fascinating retrospective, pick up the book Leslie-Arlette Boyce and I just completed: The Glory of Brooklyn's Gowanus: Legacy Industry Artistry
This hardcovered work traces the history of this amazing district through archival photographs, maps, and a well-written text. There are interviews, and a color section showcasing several current artists who are active down there.
Available locally or through the website listed above.

Eco Brooklyn is by far the most innovative and ground breaking green building company in NY. They keep pushing the envelope, forever striving to make NY a greener place. My hat goes off to them. I have had the pleasure to have them do some work for me a couple years ago when they redid my roof and turned it into a green oasis. Pretty much everything they used was salvaged.
